Learn About the California Court Interpreter Workforce Pilot Program

The California Court Interpreter Workforce Pilot Program aims to increase the number of court interpreter employees by reimbursing participants for court interpreter training costs and examination fees.  To view our court interpreter training, go here.

As of the date of this post, applications for Cohort 2 are not yet open. The Judicial Council anticipates posting the application link on March 17, 2025; however, this date is tentative and subject to change.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years old.- e authorized to work in the United States.- eside in California.- ass a background check prior to acceptance into the program.- demonstrate bilingual proficiency in one of the court's certified or registered languages.- or American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters: Possess an ASL Generalist Credential (e.g., RID Generalist Certification). Application Process:

  2. Submit Application:
    • Once applications open, complete and submit the application form by the specified deadline.
  3. Screening and Notification:
    • Submitted applications will be reviewed to assess the likelihood of successful program completion. - pplicants will receive an email notification regarding their acceptance status.
  4. Background Check:
    • Conditionally accepted candidates must pass a background check, funded by the Judicial Council, before starting the program.
  5. Program Participation:
    • Upon passing the background check, participants will receive further instructions on program commencement and requirements. Program Commitments:
  • Participants have two years to pass all required exams.- participants must agree to work for the courts for at least three years after successfully passing all required exams and enrolling with the Judicial Council as a court interpreter.- participating courts will offer employment to successful participants, subject to available positions and funding.
